The Challenge

Latina Magazine faced a critical roadblock: their website, built on Drupal, was effectively locked. The developer who had managed the platform had left the organization, leaving the editorial team without the ability to publish or maintain content.

With the magazine’s 25th anniversary approaching, the leadership needed more than just a functioning website — they wanted a modern digital presence that reflected their refreshed brand and media strategy.

The Approach

Albright Labs worked hand-in-hand with Latina Magazine’s internal design team to create a new site that was pixel-perfect to brand standards. We took a dual focus:

  • Readers: Delivering a clean, engaging, responsive experience that showcased content beautifully.

  • Editors: Building a highly usable CMS backend with intuitive publishing, scheduling, and SEO control.

One of the biggest technical hurdles was migrating content from the inaccessible Drupal system. After gaining limited access to the database, we engineered a complex decoding process to extract, clean, and import years of archived content into WordPress.

Execution & Delivery

The project followed a deliberate timeline: design spanned several months, followed by a two-month development sprint. This approach gave us ample runway for testing and adjustments before the 25th-anniversary milestone publication.

Key deliverables included:

  • A responsive, brand-aligned design built with WordPress.

  • A customized CMS tailored to editors, with content scheduling, tag management, and SEO-focused workflows.

  • A fully migrated content archive from Drupal into the new platform.

Results & Impact

The relaunch was a success. Latina Magazine finally had a modern digital presence to match its editorial vision.

Within just seven months of launch (May–December 2021), the site attracted over 231,000 active users.

The launch was also recognized in mainstream media: Camila Legaspi, Chief Content Officer, referenced the new website in multiple interviews with outlets such as MSNBC — further elevating the magazine’s profile.

Lessons Learned

This project showcased Albright Labs’ ability to blend technical rigor with design precision. By working closely with Latina’s in-house designers, we ensured the site was not only functional but also visually perfect to brand standards — a critical factor for a high-profile media property.
